Feeling Overwhelmed in Month 8 of Covid?

Social Distancing has been a buzzword dished out by top experts since March of this year. The benefits of social distancing were uttered from expert to expert.  We know the major benefit of social distancing is limiting the spread of the virus. Our amazing efforts to isolation may have caused some uncomfortable feelings. We humans are wired to not only count on groups to survive, but to thrive. Since the times of the cavemen we have run in packs for protection from other predators and to keep the human race alive. Bottom line we need human connection.

Adjusting to isolation can be overwhelming or maybe underwhelming (think boredom). It can be difficult to cope with the challenges surrounding a pandemic. Some symptoms associated with the increase in stress are:

·      Trouble sleeping

·      Poor appetite

·      Feeling uneasy with touch

·      Digestive problems

·      Problems with arousal

Now more than ever is the best time to develop a practice that involves some effective coping skills. Not every skill will work for everybody. It is best to have a therapist to work through mental blocks and discover the most effective skills to decrease or eliminate the symptoms you are experiencing.

In the meantime, a couple of (FREE) coping skills to try are listed below.

·      Listen to audiobooks- No time to read?  Try a free trial version of an audiobook or join your local library where ebooks/audiobooks are available for free.

·      Listen to a Podcast- I am a huge fan of Podcasts. They are FREE and there is a podcast for every #mood. I love to laugh and stay informed on topics at the same time.
